With the iPhone eight Apple has changed how to force restart to get into recovery or DFU mode here's how unlike.
The iPhone 7 you can no longer press the volume down button plus sleep/wake button to force restart because as you just heard that button combination on the iPhone 8 will make an emergency call so how do you force restart or get into recovery mode well I'm gonna show you right now first of all it's no longer called the sleep/wake button Apple calls it the side button that's the button that wakes your device and puts it to sleep now on the iPhone 8 you're gonna use the side button along with both volume buttons in order to force restart your iPhone place it in the recovery mode or place it in the D of you modes a little bit different than the iPhone 7 however like the iPhone 7 the solid state home button plays no role in force restarts or DFU mode or any of that so let me show you how this is going to work with the force restart first of all you're basically gonna press the volume up button followed by the volume down button and then press and hold the side button just like this so let me show you press volume up volume down press and hold side and continue holding until the screen turns black so just continue holding the side button screen turns black you can release now and then you'll see the Apple logo appear indicating that the force restart was successful now let me show you how to enter recovery mode using the iPhone 8 so we need to connect to our computer using a lightning cable I've done that okay so then we want to press volume up volume down and hold the side button until the iTunes logo so volume up volume down hold the side button continue holding don't let it go and.
You're gonna see the iPhone 8 restart continue holding the side button until you see the connect to itunes logo so.
We're almost there just a little while longer there we go so now we are in recovery mode on our iPhone 8 and you can verify that by opening up iTunes you're gonna see where it says iPhone recovery mode okay so now I'm going to show you how to get into DFU mode using your iPhone 8 you need to make sure you're connected to your computer with the lightning cable it's a little tricky so follow along volume up volume down hold the side button for 10 seconds and then as soon as the 10 seconds is up press and hold the volume down button so press and hold volume down continue holding the side button after 5 seconds release the side button and continue holding volume down once 10 seconds elapsed you should see a black screen that looks like this there will be no Apple logo if you struggle with this you may want to try switching out your lightning cable so now we are in DFU mode you can tell because restore iphone will be your only option in itunes now to exit DFU or recovery mode it's really easy just follow along you press volume up volume down and then hold the side button so volume up volume down and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo and once you see the Apple logo you know that you're out of recovery mode or out of DFU mode successfully and then your iphone will reboot back to the home screen alright so there's the Apple logo you can release the side button now and let it boot back up normally so ladies and gentlemen as you saw it is a little bit different to enter recovery mode or to force restart your iPhone 8 but if you follow these instructions you'll have it down in no time let me know what you think of the comments this is Jeff with 9 to 5 Mac
